Biographical Information[edit]

Left-hander Hank Miklos signed as an amateur free agent with the Pittsburgh Pirates before the 1936 season. Hank was assigned to the Winnipeg Maroons of the class D Northern League and pitched four seasons (1936-1939), his entire minor league career, for the Winnipeg team. Miklos put together a 47-50 won-lost record, that included three double-digit win seasons, while pitching 798 innings in 124 games. He also hit a fair lick for a pitcher, garnering 66 hits, that included three home runs, in 320 at-bats for a .206 career average.

For reasons unknown at this time Hank did not continue his professional baseball career after the 1939 season.

However, five seasons later at the age of 33, during World War II, Hank appeared with the major league Chicago Cubs and made his big league debut on April 23, 1944. He appeared in two games, pitching seven innings with no decisions but did come up with a 7.71 ERA and on May 15th, he again left the game. This time for good.

Hank was the father of pitcher John Miklos who was taken by the Seattle Pilots, from the Washington Senators, in the 1969 expansion draft, but never reached the majors.

John Joseph Miklos (Hank) died March 29, 2000 in Adrian, MI at 89 years of age.
