Biographical Information[edit]
Alfred "Hal" Mauck pitched 23 games for the Chicago Colts in 1893. This was the only season he played in Major League ball. His minor league career ran from at least 1888-1901.
Mauck, usually called "Al Mauck", was with Rock Island-Moline in 1894 and was later a Southern Association umpire.
There was a Matt Mauck in the Cubs organization from 1997-2000. Matt, like Hal, was from Indiana.
The Auburn Bulletin carried a sketch of his face along with some history about him:
"One of the most promising colts signed by Captain Anson's Chicago Baseball club for next season is Al Mauck, a young Illinois player, who has been on the professional diamond for four seasons and has made considerable of a reputation as a pitcher. The best work of his career was done with the Birmingham club of the Southern league, and it undoubtedly resulted in that team's winning the league pennant last season."
