Biographical Information

Hal Haydel pitched for the Minnesota Twins, in 1970 and 1971, getting most of his appearances the second year. He was one year older than teammate Rod Carew.

Haydel was signed by the Milwaukee Braves in 1962 and spent 1962 to 1970 moving up in the minor league organizations of several teams. After going 7-5 for the Dublin Braves of the Georgia-Florida League in 1962, he was traded to the Houston Colt .45's organization and then moved over to the Chicago Cubs organization from 1963 to 1966, most notably going 12-9 for the St. Cloud Rox in 1963. From 1967 to 1969 he pitched for the Phoenix Giants in the San Francisco Giants organization, going 10-3 in 1967 and 12-8 in 1969.

When he posted a 3.35 ERA for the Evansville Triplets in the Twins organization in 1970, the Twins brought him up in September. In his debut on September 7th, he pitched 5 innings in relief to earn an 8-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers, and also hit his first and only career homer that day. Overall, he pitched nine innings for the Twins, giving up three runs. The Twins won their division that year.

Haydel spent part of 1971 with the Portland Beavers, going 9-3, and part of that same season with the Twins, appearing in 31 games with a record of 4-2 and one save. He was with the Tacoma Twins in 1972, going 2-8, 7.14 in his final professional season.
