Biographical Information[edit]

Hajime Saito pitched in the Nippon Pro Baseball minors and the CPBL.

Saito was drafted by the Taiyo Whales in the fourth round of the 1992 NPB draft, but he didn't pitch any games with the big club until the Whales released him in 2000. He pitched 227 games in the NPB Farm Leagues, and that is still the Eastern League record as of 2023. The Brother Elephants of the CPBL then signed him, and he was 7-8 with a 3.86 ERA in 2001. He ranked 5th in strikeouts, between Chien-San Kao and Chao-Chi Sung. Saito allowed a run in 1 1/3 innings in the 2001 Taiwan Series Game 2, then he was named the starter of Game 4. He pitched 7 2/3 innings, walked 7 and allowed 4 runs. He then pitched 5 innings with 2 runs allowed in Game 7, and he got the win over José Parra of the Uni-President Lions. Saito left Taiwan after the 2001 season, and his professional career ended.
