Biographical Information[edit]

Hachiro Miwa pitched for the Osaka Tigers for five years, going 32-31, before dying at a young age during World War II.

Miwa debuted in 1939, going 2-5 with a 2.14 ERA. He was vastly improved at age 18, going 16-5 with a 1.51 ERA in 226 2/3 IP over 47 games. He threw 7 shutouts and allowed only two homers, walking 112 and striking out 112. He was 4th in the Japanese Professional Baseball League in ERA and no-hit the Tokyo Kyojin on August 3.

In 1941, Miwa slipped to 2-7, 2.25. He was 1-3 with a 2.29 ERA in 18 games (63 IP) in 1942. In a return to regular pitching, he had a 11-11, 2.42 mark in 1943 with 136 walks and 108 strikeouts.

Overall, he had gone 32-31 with a 2.03 ERA in 134 games (628 1/3 IP). He had walked 407, fanned 334 and allowed 426 hits, while throwing 10 shutouts in 22 complete games.

A year after he last pitched, he died in combat in China.
