Biographical Information

Guy Sample played in the minor leagues from 1899 to 1911 and again in 1915. He pitched and played multiple positions in the field. On the mound, he won at least 25 games between two clubs in 1901, then went 19-6 for the Vicksburg Hill Climbers in 1908. He led the Cotton States League with a .760 winning percentage. Though fairly anemic at the plate, he managed a .299 mark in 134 at-bats for the Seattle Siwashes in 1903. His statistical record is largely incomplete.

He managed the Pine Bluff Lumbermen in 1905, leading then to a 42-31, third place finish. In 1906, he skippered the Meridian Ribboners, finishing in second place at 65-54. With the Meridian White Ribbons in 1907, he led the team to a 64-70 record. He was the first of two managers for the East Liverpool Potters in 1910, being replaced by Henry Lattimore. He then took over for Al McClintock of the Lancaster Lanks that year, eventually being replaced by Heinie Peitz.

He also coached for the Dayton Veterans and served as an umpire in the Central League.
