Biographical Information[edit]

Gustavo Roque was the youngest player on the Brazilian national team that won the 2016 South American Championship. He started strong, going 3 for 4 with a walk, two steals, two runs and two RBI in their opener versus rival Argentina and kept on rolling. In the five round-robin games, he hit .466/.588/.867 with seven runs and nine RBI, going 5-for-5 in steals. An outfielder, he had six putouts and no errors. He was 5th in average, tied for 5th in hits (7), tied for second in homers (1, one behind Iago Januário), tied Januário for first in RBI (more than the entire Bolivian national team), 3rd in OBP (behind Felipe Burin and Januário), second in slugging (behind Januário) and tied Donovan Castilla for first in steals. He was 0 for 3 in the semifinals but with a run and two RBI then was 0 for 3 in the title game (versus Argentina) with an error, walk and two more runs to finish at 10 runs and 11 RBI in 7 games.
