Biographical Information[edit]
Starting pitcher Gus Hallbourg spent six years in the minor leagues, playing from 1939 to 1941 and from 1946 to 1948. He was 68-59 in 188 appearances. His two best seasons were 1940, when he went 21-11 with a 4.15 ERA in 37 games for the Pampa Oilers and 1941, when he went 15-15 with an ERA around 2.70 in a year split between the Anaheim Aces (39 games) and San Diego Padres (four games). He survived the 1946 Spokane Indians bus tragedy, when the team bus crashed into a ravine and killed nine team members.
