Biographical Information

Gui Yuan Xu has played in the minors.

Xu was two-time MVP of the China National Youth Baseball League (2012, 2014). He was signed by Baltimore Orioles scouts Brett Ward and Mike Snyder in July 2015 out of the MLB Development Center in China; he was the first signee from that program. He was not the first US minor leaguer from China; Chao Wang had preceded him. He made his pro debut with the 2016 GCL Orioles, hitting .247/.271/.284 in 33 games. Defense was an issue as he fielded .769 in 9 outfield games and .936 in 7 games at 1B.

Xu is on the Chinese national team in the 2017 World Baseball Classic.

His nickname "Itchy" comes from his favorite player, Ichiro Suzuki.
