Biographical Information[edit]
Gualberto Acosta was a top Venezuelan umpire.
Acosta was a catcher for five years in the Venezuelan League. He hit 1 for 12 for the 1949-1950 Navegantes del Magallanes, then was 6 for 34 in 1950-1951, his busiest season. He went 3 for 13 in 1951-1952, 0 for 3 in 1952-1953 and 0 for 1 in 1955-1956 to end his career with a .159 average in 29 games.
He later was a longtime umpire in both the Venezuelan League and the Caribbean Series and helped start umpiring schools in Venezuela. In 2008, he was the second umpire enshrined in Venezuela's Salón de la Fama.
