Biographical Information

Koo-seon Jeong was named the top second baseman in the Korea Baseball Organization three years in a row.

Jeong was on the South Korean national team that won the 1982 Amateur World Series (the team's first global title). He hit .256/.328/.413 with 15 homers as a rookie for the Sammi Superstars in 1983, finishing 6th in the league in homers. He won the Gold Glove, which in South Korea goes to the best player at each position for combined offensive and defensive value. The Sammi second sacker produced at a .293/.403/.442 clip in 1984, finishing 4th in hits (103), 10th in average, 6th in home runs (12), 4th in OBP and first in walks (62). He won another Gold Glove.

In 1985, the Superstars became the Chungbo Pintos and Jeong hit .261/.381/.406 with 14 home runs. He was 5th in homers, 6th in RBI (53) and again first in walks (69, 12 ahead of runner-up Hyo-jo Jang). He won his third and last Gold Glove, becoming the first three-time winner; Seong-rae Kim would match him (1986-1988) but it would not be until 1998 that Jong-tae Park became the first four-time winner at 2B.

Jeong remained productive (.262/.334/.406, 13 HR) in 1986, finishing 7th in homers and 9th in walks (40). He hit .254/.362/.390 for the Lotte Giants in 1987, drawing 53 walks, tied for second in the loop, one behind Kwang-soo Kim. On August 31, he hit for the cycle, the second player in league history to do so. In 1988, he slumped to .221/.309/.361, though he was still 10th in both home runs (12) and walks (40). He hit .230/.346/.327 in 1989 and .170/.274/.279 in 1990.

Jeong's career batting line was .250/.352/.388 in 768 games, with 308 runs, 316 RBI, 84 home runs and 365 walks.
