Biographical Information[edit]

Greg Terlecky was pretty busy during his one partial year in the big leagues, appearing in 20 games for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1975. He was one of the youngest players on the team managed by Red Schoendienst.

Greg pitched nine seasons in the minors, including four with the Tulsa Oilers. He was with Tulsa in 1975 when he was not in the majors.

After baseball, he worked for forty years in life insurance and financial planning in southern California.

His father was a semi-pro player who had to give up baseball after being wounded in World War II. His father eventually became his manager in Little League and on other teams for older boys. But when he became a star pitcher in high school and began to draw the attention of major league scouts, his father urged him to complete a college degree first, so he accepted a scholarship offer from the University of Oregon.

He was drafted by the Cardinals in the 5th round of the 1970 amateur draft but he initially turned down their offer. He accepted to sign when they agreed to allow him to complete his freshman year at Oregon, and then to pay for further tuition at Whittier College, so that he could complete a degree in business administration. He also extracted a signing bonus of $70,000 from them - well above the norm for a 5th round pick at the time.
