Biographical Information[edit]
Greg Smith was tabbed as a good prospect who was stuck behind Ryne Sandberg. The Chicago Cubs traded him to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Jose Vizcaino on December 14, 1990. Vizcaino played 16 more seasons for 9 teams, while Smith played in only 5 games and had only 3 at bats for the Dodgers in 1991, then never appeared in another major league game. He was a minor league hitting coach and scout for the Kansas City Royals from 1997-2006. He then was a Cleveland Indians scout from 2007-2009 and then moved to the Texas Rangers as a major league scout. In 2012, he was promoted to special assistant to the Rangers GM. As a scout, he signed Beau Mills and Joseph Mahalic.
