Biographical Information

Left-hander Glenn Elliott spent fifteen active seasons in professional baseball from 1942 to 1956.

"Lefty" spent eleven games in the major leagues with the Boston Braves in 1947, one appearance in 1948 and spent the entire season with the Braves in 1949. During this run, he appeared in 34 games and went 4-5 with a 4.08 ERA. With the Braves on April 17, 1947, facing the Brooklyn Dodgers, in his big league debut, he gave up Jackie Robinson's first major league hit, a bunt single in the 4th inning.

During his 14 years in the minor leagues, Elliott had nine double-digit winning seasons. His two best years came while pitching for the Milwaukee Brewers of the American Association. He chalked up a 14-5 record and a 3.78 ERA in 1947 and came right back with a 14-7 number and a 3.76 ERA in 1948.

After his 1949 season in the major leagues, he finished out his time in the minors, finishing up in 1956 with a minor league record of 150-139 and a 3.47 ERA, appearing in 426 games and pitching 2,475 innings.

Elliott was taken in the 1951 Rule V Draft by the Washington Senators from the Sacramento Solons.

After his active time in the game was over Elliott became a scout for the Philadelphia Phillies. Herbert Glenn Elliott died on July 27, 1969 in Portland, OR. He had been suffering from a brain tumor and lung cancer.
