Biographical Information[edit]

Glen Clark was a pinch-hitter in four games for the Atlanta Braves at age 26 in 1967. He also played 10 seasons in the minors.

Glen was born in Austin, TX in 1941 and attended Manor High School in the same city. He was signed as a free agent in 1962, and in both of his first two minor league seasons hit 30+ home runs with a batting average over .300. In spite of that, he didn't have a full year in AA level ball until 1966 with the Austin Braves. Although he hit .296, he was back in AA ball in 1967, coming up to the bigs in June.

He then spent four more years in the minors (1968-1971), mostly in the Houston Astros organization. Oddly, he didn't play at all in AAA level ball in his minor league career except for three games in 1971. Overall in the minors, Glen hit .280 with 119 home runs. He played in his home town of Austin for part of 1964, all of 1966 and part of 1967.

One reason for his slow rise in the minors may have been his conversion to catcher in 1965. He had played primarily third base and outfield before that, and in his later years he continued to be a multi-position player. He ended up with 429 games in the outfield, 232 at catcher, 165 at third base, 51 at first base and 1 at shortstop. In the majors he was solely a pinch-hitter, and never appeared in the field.
