Gilmar Pereira was one of the youngest players on the Brazilian team in the 2007 Pan American Games. His fastball has been timed at 95 mph.
Pereira spent three years (ages 14-17) in Japan. He was signed by the Philadelphia Phillies and was 0-1 with a 9.88 ERA for the 2006 GCL Phillies, allowing 24 hits and 11 walks in 13 2/3 IP. He walked six and gave up two runs in 1 2/3 IP in the 2006 COPABE qualifiers for the 2008 Olympics. He allowed 5 hits and 4 runs in two innings against the Dominican national team in the 2007 Pan American Games, taking the loss.
Pereira was 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA in the 2008 Americas Baseball Cup, losing to Panama.
