Biographical Information

Gil Vidrio played for three seasons in the minors, twice hitting .300. He was picked by the San Diego Padres in the fifth round of the 1969 amateur draft. In his pro debut, he hit .354/.433/.470 for the Salt Lake City Bees. He fielded only .897 at short. He failed to make the Pioneer League All-Star team at shortstop despite winning the batting title; batting runner-up Rudy Meoli was picked as he had more power.

In 1970, Vidrio batted .278/.305/.331 with 13 steals in 17 tries for the Lodi Padres, improving his fielding at short to .935. In a second go-around with Lodi, Gilbert produced at a .304/.355/.339 rate in 1971 to end his career.
