Biographical Information

Shortstop Gil Garrido played six seasons in the National League, mostly with the Atlanta Braves.

The son of Negro League infielder Gil Garrido Sr., Garrido was originally signed by the San Francisco Giants and made his pro debut in 1960. He had a brief cup of coffee in the majors with the team in 1964, going just 2-for-25 in 14 games. Midway through the 1966 season, he was dealt to the Braves for Marv Breeding and cash.

Garrido returned to the majors with Atlanta in 1968. Primarily a backup to shortstop Sonny Jackson, he had his best season in 1970, hitting .264 in 101 games and clubbing his only big league homer off Denny Lemaster of the Houston Astros on May 27th. After his major league days, he was back in the minors with the Richmond Braves in 1973.

Following his playing career, Garrido was a coach for the Burlington Braves in 1988, Sumter Braves in 1989, Burlington in 1990, and Durham Bulls in 1991.
