Biographical Information[edit]
Gibran Hamdan was on the Pakistani national team.
He learned baseball in Kuwait from Japanese kids. [1] He went on to hit .318/.387/.464 in two seasons in college. [2] The scouts didn't think he had enough pop for a first baseman so he turned his focus to football. [3] Like Russell Wilson, he did better on the gridiron than on his first choice, the diamond. He became the first NFL quarterback of Pakistani descent, playing one game for the 2003 Washington Redskins and later winning MVP of NFL Europe. [4]
Hamdan made Pakistan's roster for the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers but did not make it into a game. [5] He was not the first former NFL quarterback to be named to a team for a WBC qualifier; Tim Tebow was slated to represent the Philippines in 2020 before those qualifiers were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
