Giancarlo Mangini

Giancarlo Mangini has been involved in baseball in many capacities.

As a player, Mangini played in the 1956 European Championship and 1957 European Championship. Statistics for Serie A are available dating back to 1962, when Mangini was already 31 years old. The first baseman for Milano hit .263/.509/.316 with 18 walks in 16 games in 1962. He hit .118/.270/.118 and stole 12 bases in 14 tries in '63. He batted .185/.323/.185 in 1964. In 1965, he produced at a .311/.451/.322 rate with 14 stolen bases in 17 attempts and 26 runs in 26 games. During the 1966 campaign, Mangini hit .188/.307/.248. He slumped to .099/.255/.110 in 1967, when he was 36 years old. He was 2 for 13 with six walks in 1968 and 0 for 2 in 1969. He bounced back to bat .243/.282/.243 in 1970, then wrapped up by hitting .125/.222/.146 in 1971. In his last decade, Mangini hit .189/.331/.211 with 110 walks and 50 strikeouts in 177 games.

Mangini also coached and managed in Italy. He then went into journalism, writing for over 40 newspapers, and also did some television broadcasting. For his collected body of work, but focused mainly on his journalism, he was inducted into the Italian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007.
