Biographical Information

German Jimenez pitched for the last-place Mexican team in the 1980 Amateur World Series. He was signed out of the Mexican League in 1988 by the Atlanta Braves who were desperate for any kind of pitching help and brought him to the majors immediately. He managed to go 1-6 with a 5.01 ERA in 15 games. His lone win coming on July 24th against the New York Mets. He pitched 5 innings giving up 4 hits, 1 earned run, no walks an striking out 3.

He then pitched for the Greenville Braves in 1989, going 11-7. The remainder of his career was spent in Mexico, starting with the Piratas de Campeche in 1981, and finishing in 2001 when he started 6 games for the Langosteros de Cancun at the age of 38.

Jimenez had two brothers who pitched in the Mexican League, Isaac Jimenez and Saul Jimenez. As of 2010, German Jimenez was the only major leaguer from the Mexican state of Nayarit.
