Biographical Information[edit]
George Wolfman was a long-time college coach.
Wolfman went 13 for 61 with a double, triple and a homer for the 1934 Mission Reds and was 2 for 10 for the club a year later to conclude his playing career. George returned to his alma mater to coach and guided the University of California from 1955-1977. He took the team to the 1957 College World Series title. He coached Mike Epstein and Andy Messersmith in college. In 1986, Wolfman was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Wolfman was also head coach at Mission High School from 1937 to 1942 and 1946 to 1954. While in the Navy, Wolfman had the chance to catch Bob Feller, saying "I thought his fastball would blow me off the mound, but I found it easy to handle, and Feller a nice guy to work with."
