George N. Stalze
Biographical Information[edit]
George Stalze was both an effective outfielder and pitcher in the minor leagues. Playing before the turn of the 20th century, Stalze batted over .320 twice per records available. But perhaps his most notable season was on the mound -- in 1886, with the Wilkes-Barre club of the Pennsylvania State League, the hurler went 30-7 with a 1.10 ERA in 40 games, completing 39 of them. He led the league in wins and ERA. In 361 innings, he allowed 319 hits and 197 runs, but only 44 were earned. He also walked 51 and had 157 strikeouts.
