Biographical Information[edit]

George Myers was a weak-hitting catcher who earned his keep as a backstop. When he came up in 1884, he was able to play the position well enough that he freed up good-hitting Jack Rowe to move from catcher to shortstop the next year. Myers did have one year when he hit decently, in 1888 when he hit .238 on a team that hit .238.

He umpired one National League game in 1886.

He was born and died in Buffalo, NY, where he also broke into the majors. In 1912 it was reported that he had done well financially in Buffalo as a contractor and builder.
