Biographical Information[edit]
"George Moolic is a particularly fine looking fellow. He is built like an athlete, every inch of him, and he looks like he could get under any foul fly that ever left a bat, or hold down any ball that came over the home plate from a pitcher's hands. Not only is George a ball player, but from all I can hear he is an adept with the gloves as well, and gentlemanly adept at that." - from Sporting Life's Chicago correspondent, March 24, 1886
George "Prunes" Moolic played one season in the major leagues. He had been part of a battery with Jocko Flynn the previous season, and when Cap Anson signed Flynn for the 1886 Chicago White Stockings, Moolic came along too. The two had both been born in Lawrence, MA and were approximately the same age.
Moolic later managed a minor league team in Norwalk, CT.
After Flynn died, Sporting Life and readers engaged in some rememberances of Flynn and Moolic. One reader wrote that Moolic had started with the independent Washington Stars of Lawrence, MA around 1882 or 1883. He then played in the minors at Meriden and Lawrence. After his playing days Moolic became a business man in Lawrence.
