Biographical Information[edit]
George Meyer became the everyday second baseman for the Chicago White Sox at the end of the 1938 season. He hit .296 in 81 at-bats.
He had been in the Texas League in 1937-1938 and afterwards went back to the Texas League. However, Meyer had been born in Chicago, IL and eventually died in the Chicago area.
His manager at the major league level was Jimmie Dykes, who had himself played a lot of second base in the majors.
Jackie Hayes, who was with the White Sox from 1932-1940, was the regular second baseman for much of 1938.
