Biographical Information[edit]

George Harper's ERA on the Philadelphia Phillies in 1894 was actually better than the team average. The Phillies hit .349, and Harper pitched in an extreme lively ball era environment as the team's # 4 pitcher.

In 1890, Harper pitched 596 innings in the California League posting a 41-26 record and a 1.22 ERA. He allowed 81 earned runs, but 352 runs. Harper followed this up in 1891 with 704 innings, a 47-32 record, and a 0.96 ERA. He allowed just 75 earned runs, but 417 runs total. In 1895, Harper was 24-21 for the Rochester Browns, a team that was 23-61 when he didn't get the decision.

Harper pitched in pro ball from 1886 to 1901, posting a 290-268 minor league record in 583 games and 4,650 innings.

Harper also managed the 1900 Stockton Pirates and the 1914 Stockton Millers.
