Biographical Information[edit]

George Fisher was a minor league player and manager in the 1940s and 1950s. He played for the Waycross Bears (1948-1949), Greenville Majors (1949-1950), Pensacola Fliers (1950) and Corpus Christi Aces (1952-1953). He managed the Aces for part of 1953, replacing Jack Trench.

In college, he was All-Volunteer State Athletic Association in football and basketball, setting several school receiving records in football (later broken by his future son-in-law). He began his career by hitting .307 and led the Georgia-Florida League with 123 runs in 133 games in 1948 and in 1949, he hit .309 with 10 triples in 126 games. After struggling in 1950, Fisher did not play in 1951. In 1952, he hit .302/.442/.403 with 86 walks in 93 games. In 1953, his final season, he hit .318 in 92 games. He then returned to Austin Peay and coached golf, basketball and track, was athletic director (1972-1977) and did not retire as a teacher there until the 1990s. He was part of the school's first Hall of Fame class.

Overall, he batted .293 with 613 hits in 562 games.
