Biographical Information[edit]
George Culver managed the 1978 Bakersfield Outlaws, an independent team that played in the Class A California League. The Outlaws finished last, with a record of 48-82. Culver was a coach for the Reading Phillies in 1981, Spartanburg Traders in 1982, Portland Beavers in 1983-1984, Reading again in 1985, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons in 1989 and both Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Reading in 1990. He was then the roving minor league pitching instructor for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1991-1992.
Culver spear-headed the fund-raising activities for the start up of the baseball program at Cal State Bakersfield (CSUB). CSUB athletics began the process of moving up to Division 1 status and the Roadrunners baseball team played its first game in 2009.
Culver is also a fund-raising supporter of the baseball program at Bakersfield College, his alma mater.
