George Bunker
George M. Bunker was one of three persons who joined to purchase 80% of the Washington Senators on January 29, 1963, alongside James M. Johnston and James H. Lemon. The deal bought out five of the team's ten original owners, including Pete Quesada who was the original team principal. The Senators had just been formed through the expansion of 1961. The deal was pulled off quickly in order to counter a possible move by Bill Veeck to buy the club. Johnston was named team President.
Bunker was the President of defense contractor Martin Marietta and was one of the team's original owners, dating back to 1961. In the 1963 deal, he upped his share to 20%. Johnston and Lemon then consolidated their control by buying out Bunker and another minority owner in 1965.
