Biographical Information

George Andrews was a minor league baseball outfielder/first baseman and manager. He played on-and-off from 1928 to at least 1938 and often hit for high averages. With the Marshalltown Ansons in 1928, he hit .402, while slugging .661, with 29 doubles, 13 triples and 15 home runs in 98 games. A few years later, with the Davenport Blue Sox, he hit .333 in 118 games in 1931. With the Bartlesville Broncos in 1932, he hit .307/.341/.468 with 7 home runs and 22 stolen bases in 85 games. For the St. Augustine Saints and Palatka Azaleas in 1936, he hit .350 with 10 home runs and 78 RBI to win the Triple Crown. He managed the Azaleas for part of the 1938 season before being replaced by Herb Thomas.

Baseball Reference lists three George Andrews who played at around the same time and there was some thought that they were all the same person. A Sporting News contract card links two of them, while another source links the third.[1][2] That other source also claims that Sherley Andrews is George Andrews, however that is dubious.

His birthyear has also been listed as 1904.
