General Motors

From BR Bullpen

General Motors was one of America's "Big Three" automobile manufacturers in the 20th Century. Over the years, it employed numerous former major leaguers, including Charlie Rabe, Dave Hoskins, Ribs Raney and Maurice Fisher. The company also was heavily involved in Belgian baseball for many years. The General Motors-sponsored club won the first three Belgian titles, in 1947, 1948 and 1949. The GM Giants won their last pennant in 1952, but GM remained active in Belgian baseball until 1985. Longtime college coach Bill Arce said that the early-1960s GM field in Belgium was "a good small-college field," a rarity for Europe in that era.
