Gene Sodersten
Gene Sodersten broke into professional baseball in 1951 with the Oshkosh Giants, hitting .216 with 3 homers. After two years in the military, he he returned to bat .180 for the 1954 St. Cloud Rox and .253 for the Olean Giants that year; he hit seven home runs and drove in 22 overall. He finished his career with three clubs in the 1955 California League, managing just a .165 average with 4 HR and 11 RBI.
Personal Remembrance[edit]
Gene Sodersten was an outfielder on the 1954 St. Cloud Rox of the Class C Northern League. He was a tall blond outfielder from Waupaca, Wis. I was a pitcher on the same team. I believe Gene was a military veteran. I don't know if he played pro baseball before military service, or after St. Cloud. He was a strong athlete, but probably somewhat slow afoot, and he may have swung a slow bat for a pro baseball career.
