Biographical Information[edit]
Father of Gene Moore Jr., Gene "Blue Goose" Moore played three years in the majors, totalling ten appearances as a pitcher. His best season was with the 1910 Pirates when he went 2-1 in four games with an ERA of 3.12. He was twelve years younger than teammate Honus Wagner.
His major league debut with the 1909 Pirates was on September 28, pitching the last two innings of a game the Pirates lost by the score of 13-0. However, because the 1909 Cubs lost elsewhere, the Pirates clinched the pennant that day, and there was a major celebration. Source: Sporting Life, October 9, 1909.
Gene had a long minor league career, including parts of five seasons with the Galveston Pirates and parts of five seasons with teams of various names based in Dallas, TX. He also had parts of three seasons with the Houston Buffaloes. In 1912 he was 19-6 with Galveston, in 1914 he was 21-10 with Galveston, and in 1915 he was 19-1 with Galveston.
