Biographical Information[edit]
Gene McDonnell was a longtime college coach.
McDonnell was a shortstop in college at LaSalle. After graduation he went into the army and played basketball and baseball for Fort Monmouth. He eventually received a master's degree from Glassboro State.
McDonnell became the coach at LaSalle in 1958, coaching until retiring in 1988. He then returned to coach the team again from 1991 to 1995. In 35 years as head coach, he amassed a 513-494-7 record. He was then an assistant coach at Camden County College in 1996, and co-coach in 1997.
