Biographical Information[edit]

Gary Van Tol has been a minor league manager and college coach.

Van Tol played for Team Canada for 1990-1991. In the 1990 Baseball World Cup, he hit .207/.303/.207 while fielding just .765 at 3B (his main position). He also was with Canada for the 1990 Goodwill Games and 1991 Pan American Games. He was the Most Popular Player at the 1991 World Port Tournament. His performance in that Netherlands-based event got him a contract with Levis Neptunus. He played for Neptunus in 1992-1993, winning the 1993 Holland Series and 1993 European Cup. He also coached for Neptunus in '93.

Van Tol coached for the Great Britain national team in the 1996 European Championship B Pool. He was assistant coach at Treasure Valley Community College in 1991 and Gonzaga University in 1992-1993. He was head coach of Centralia College in 1994-1995 and then was head coach of Treasure Valley from 1996-2000. He also coached for the British national team that won the 1996 European Championship B Pool. He was assistant at the University of Portland from 2003-2005 and Gonzaga from 2006-2007?. He became manager of the Boise Hawks in 2013-2014 and Eugene Emeralds in 2015. Van Tol became a bench coach for the Emeralds in 2016-2017.

In November 2017 Van Tol was hired by Boise State University to be its baseball coach when the program is re-established in 2020. Unfortunately, after one abbreviated season (due to COVID-19), the school dropped the program. In 2021, he moved back to the professional coaching ranks as manager of the Boise Hawks, now in the Pioneer League, which had been reorganized as an independent league.
