Biographical Information

Minor league catcher Gary Zunino peaked at AA. His brother Greg Zunino also played in the minors and his nephew Mike Zunino made it to the majors.

Gary was undrafted out of college. He signed with the St. Louis Cardinals and hit .247/.284/.351 for the 1979 Johnson City Cardinals. In 1980, he played for the Gastonia Cardinals (.257/.349/.311 in 29 G), St. Petersburg Cardinals (0 for 1) and Arkansas Travelers (8 for 42, 3 2B, 12 BB). He finished his career with Gastonia in 1981, producing at a .245/.294/.330 clip. In 111 minor league games, he had hit .240/.315/.319 with 33 runs and 28 RBI. He fielded .975 with 16 passed balls in 81 games at catcher.
