Biographical Information

Gary Picone has been a college coach and Team Canada manager.

Picone was an outfielder in college; he played for Canada in the 1974 Amateur World Series, 1978 Amateur World Series and 1980 Amateur World Series. In the '78 Series, he hit .152/.300/.182 and had two assists in the outfield. He was Canada's main center fielder and his 7 walks tied Ken Wiebe for 2nd on the team, 3 behind Dale Tilleman. He coached for Canada in the 1981 Intercontinental Cup. He coached in the Barrhead School District in Alberta from 1976-1980 and in the Trail, BC School District from 1981-1983. He then returned to his alma mater, Lewis-Clark State College, as assistant coach from 1983-1989. He also was a coach for Team Canada from 1982-1986. From 1991-1999, he was athletic director of Lewis-Clark State College; he also was pitching coach for the Canadian squad that won the 1991 World Junior Championship.

Picone was pitching coach at Washington State University from 2000-2001, then had yet another stint at Lewis-Clark, as pitching coach from 2002-2005 and athletic director from 2006-2010. He managed Canada in the 2003 Baseball World Cup. He replaced long-time Lewis-Clark head coach Ed Cheff in 2011 and went 79-29 in two years, taking the team to the 2011 NAIA College World Series and 2012 NAIA College World Series before stepping down to focus on his duties as athletic director. He had been an assistant coach on eight NAIA College World Series champions.
