Biographical Information[edit]

The son of Jim Davenport, infielder Gary Davenport was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 27th round of the 1981 amateur draft and played three seasons in their organization. He later was a coach in their organization, serving on the staff of the San Jose Giants in 2005, the Connecticut Defenders in 2006-2007 and San Jose from 2008 to 2012. He became a manager in 2013-2014 for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. Davenport was a fundamentals coach for San Jose in 2018-2019. He was scheduled to return to San Jose in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to Covid-19. He was fundamentals coach of the Richmond Flying Squirrels in 2021-2022.
