Biographical Information[edit]

Brother of Granny Hamner, Garvin Hamner played for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1945. He also played many years in the minors, primarily in the South.

Garvin appeared four seasons with Richmond, playing in the town where he was born and died.

Both Hamner brothers were on the 1945 Phillies, at a time when Granny was only 18 and not yet established with the team. Both spent most of the 1945 season in the minors (at different teams).

The two Hamner brothers both played the middle infield, although Garvin played more second base than shortstop while Granny played more shortstop than second base. Each also played some third.

Although Garvin was the older brother, he outlived Granny by 10 years.
