Biographical Information[edit]

Garrett Baker played college ball at Cedarville University and graduated in 2016 with a degree in Exercise Science. Later he earned a master's degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology from Springfield College (2019). In addition to his degrees, Baker is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist which he utilized in his various baseball jobs. Baker also played professionally in independent baseball leagues. The first year he pitched for the New Hampshire Wild of the Empire League where he led the team in starts and in innings pitched. He played a second season of pro ball for the Tucson Saguaros who are members of the Pecos League.

From 2016 - 2021 Baker held a variety of baseball jobs, sometimes simultaneously. He worked for Powerhouse Performance Training as a pitching instructor (August 2016 - July 2021) and Mental Performance Coach (2018 - July 2021).[1] In the same time period, he was an assistant coach for the Westfield State University Owls during the 2018 season and American International College Yellow Jackets in 2019-2021. In mid-2021 Baker moved to the high school level for one season as the Director of Player Development for Inspiration Academy. He rejoined the college coaching ranks in August 2022 as an assistant coach with the Tyler Junior College Apaches. This job only lasted 5 months.

In 2023, the New York Mets hired Baker as an Integration Pitching Coach for the FCL Mets. He continued in this role in 2024.

Baker is an advocate of an ecological approach to coaching.[2]
