Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher Gabriel Gutierrez began his professional career in 2005.
Signed by scout Mike Brito, he played in the Los Angeles Dodgers system from 2005 to 2010, though he spent most of 2009 and 2010 in the Mexican League. He reached Triple-A his first pro season, hitting .462/.533/.462 in four games with the Las Vegas 51s.
Since 2011, he has played entirely in the Mexican and Mexican Pacific Winter Leagues. Though he was not a high-average hitter while in affiliated ball -- his batting average peaked at .269 in 2005 (save for a .368 mark in five games in 2010) -- his batting average increased upon joining the league south of the border. For example, he hit .339/.428/.538 for the Mexico City Red Devils in 2011 and in 2014, he batted .356/.444/.533 for the same team. He was a Mid-Season All-Star in 2014.
