Biographical Information[edit]
Fumio Hashizume pitched for five years for the Toei Flyers. He was 5-8 with a 2.53 ERA as a rookie in 1960, with only 21 walks in 145 1/3 innings. He went 2-2 with a 1.21 ERA in 53 outings (5 starts) in 1961 and had a 1-1, 1.96 record as a LOOGY (37 G, 22 2/3 IP) in 1962. He pitched in four of the seven games in the 1962 Japan Series, but faced just six batters (one hit, one strikeout, no walks, no runs). The Flyers beat the Hanshin Tigers for their only Japan Series title. Hashizume remained effective in 1963 (3-1, 2.72) but gave up 7 runs and 11 hits in 4 2/3 IP in 1964, going 0-1.
Overall, Hashizume was 11-13 with a 2.22 ERA in 191 games in his career.
