Fumimaru Taura has pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball.
Taura represented Japan in the 2017 U-18 Baseball World Cup, and he was named the All-Star reliever. He saved Soma Tokuyama's win over the Netherlands, beat Australia's Jess Williams and lost to South Korea's Min Kim as Japan won Bronze. He had a 1.32 ERA in six outings and struck out 29 in 13 2/3 IP while yielding only six hits. Despite being a reliever, he led the event in K, two ahead of Ethan Hankins. [1]
He was selected by the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks in the 5th round of the 2017 NPB draft, and he had a 4.50 ERA in 8 games with the big club in 2019. He missed the 2020 season due to left shoulder injury, then he had a 3.38 ERA in 19 games in 2021.[2] Taura struggled again in 2022 as his ERA was 9.64 in 4 games, and he broke out in 2023. He pitched 45 games with a solid 2.38 ERA, and he also collected 7 holds. However, he had a left shoulder injury again in 2024, and he only had 4 appearances with the big club.
