Biographical Information

Fred Heimach broke into the major elagues at age 19 with the Philadelphia Athletics in 19020, then went 14-12 for a below-.500 Athletics team in 1924. In 1928 he was part of a pennant-winning New York Yankees team and the following year, 1929, he went 11-6 for the Yankees. In 1931 and 1932, he went 9-7 and 9-4 for above-.500 Brooklyn Dodgers teams.

Heimach was used as a pinch-hitter 52 times in the majors, getting 20 hits for a .385 average. His major league lifetime batting average was .236 (in 542 at-bats).

One source claims he served in the Army in World War I. He was in the minors with the Raleigh Nats of the Piedmont League before coming to the majors in 1920. In 1927 and part of 1928 he played for the St. Paul Saints of the American Association. He was with the Toledo Mud Hens of the same circuit for part of 1930. In 1934 he was back with St. Paul in his last season as a player.

In 1940, he managed the Miami Beach Tigers during their only season in the Florida East Coast League. The team finished 60-51 and in 3rd place.
