Mainly a backup, Carisch only once, in 1913, played in at least half of his team's games, batting .216 in 82 games. He was a coach for the Detroit Tigers in 1923 and 1924. In that first year, Carisch officially wrapped up his playing career, appearing in two games at 41. He was in the minors at various times from 1901 to 1915, and played in 1921 as a player-manager for the Sioux Falls Soos, where he also managed in 1922.
