Biographical Information[edit]
Fred Beebe played for the University of Illinois in 1902 and 1903, where he studied electrical engineering, before pitching seven years in the major leagues. Sadly, he was traded in the middle of his rookie season by the Chicago Cubs in 1906, while the Cubs went on to become one of the top teams of all-time with 116 victories. Beebe was 6-1 at the time of his trade. In 202 career big league games, 153 starts, he was 62-83 with a 2.86 ERA. He led the National League in runs allowed in 1909, allowing 142 (of which just 90 were earned), as well as wild pitches with 15. After four full seasons out of the bigs, he made 20 appearances with the Cleveland Indians in 1916, his swan song. Fred umpired one National League game in 1907.
