Biographical Information[edit]
Fred Bailey was an outfielder who played three years in the big leagues. He was one of seven players at Washington and Lee University during the 1910s who came to the majors. Manager George Stallings brought up both Bailey and Art Rico to the Boston Braves at age 20 in 1916. The following year, Bailey and Rico remained the youngest players on the team. In 1918, Rico was gone, and Bailey played his last major league game on April 27. Bailey also played 21 games for the 1918 Toronto Maple Leafs who went 88-39, a team which also featured King Lear. In 1920, Hartford bought Bailey from Columbus.
