Franklin Tavarez was MVP of the 2008 European Under-21 Championship, hitting .450/.476/1.100 for Spain. His 3 homers in five games led the tournament and he also drive in seven runs. In 2009, he hit .286/.409/.416 for the Halcones de Vigo and his four triples tied for second in the Division Honor, trailing Daniel Sanchez. Tavarez batted .294/.429/.471 for the Marlins Puerto Cruz in the 2010 European Cup. He signed with Novara Baseball in Italy for 2011. On Opening Day, he went 2 for 4 with a double, run and 2 RBI from the #2 slot in the order as Novara beat Grosseto; he handled four chances without an error at short.
