Biographical Information[edit]

Franky Quintana was a star reliever in Cuba, pitching for the Cuban national team, before he defected.

He debuted with Isla de la Juventud in the 2013-2014, going 1-1 with a save and a 4.65 ERA, though the teenager walked 20 in 31 innings. He slumped to 1-4, 8.83 in 2014-2015 with 20 walks in 17 1/3 IP, then vanished from Cuba's top circuit for three seasons. Returning in 2019-2020, he had a 0-3, 3.03 record with one save. In 2020-2021, he was 4-10 with a 5.96 ERA. He tied Geonel Gutiérrez and Dairon Mena for the most losses, and his 58 walks were four behind Marlon Vega.

Moving to the bullpen in 2021-2022, he found his calling, going 1-2 with 14 saves and a 2.16 ERA. He led the league in saves, two ahead of Vega. He was 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA for Cuba in the 2022 Caribbean Baseball Cup, beating Djenior Mogen and defending champion Curaçao. [1] In the Cuban Elite League, he was 1-0 with two saves and a 1.16 ERA in 15 games for the Tabacaleros.

Franky was 6-4 with 11 saves and a 2.77 ERA in the 2022-2023 Serie Nacional. [2] He pitched for Cuba in the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games, saving Yoannis Yera's win over Curaçao. He allowed one run in three innings for the Games, as Cuba won the Silver. He tied for 8th in the Games with three appearances while only Eduardo Paredes had more saves. [3] He was part of Cuba's team for the 2023 Caribbean Baseball Cup but defected from the champs during the tournament. [4]
